Cookies: They're Not Just For Christmas Anymore

I have a bit of an obsession with Vegan Treats' holiday cookie selection.  Maybe it's because the idea of all of those different cookies in one container is exciting?  Or that I'd never have the patience or skill to amass such an impressive selection from my own kitchen?  Whatever the reason: they're the bomb.

My parents were already forewarned that I expected these cookies for Christmas, but they surprised me with them for Hanukkah*.  Since technically they're holiday cookies, I don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't know that I can adequately impart how extraordinary this cookie assortment is, but I'll try (they vary from year to year).

  • Traditional, holiday, sugar and butter cookies abound: decorated with jamprints or sprinkles, and fashioned into wreaths, candy cans, trees, and even snowflakes.

  • I'm always a fan of the Mexican wedding cookie, and VM really liked the other round cookie, which was lemon iced.

  • There was a mint sandwich cookie, a cherry white chocolate chip cookie, and even a chocolate peanut butter cookie.

  • The favorite of the selections was the thin, chocolate, nut cookie dipped in chocolate.
As if all that weren't enough...what better to usher in the shrub season (from Hanukkah bush to Christmas tree) than these two fine, edible trees.

This one was a surprise.  While this cake-on-a-stick is usually chocolate chocolate cookie cheesecake inside,

this time it was vanilla cheesecake with a thin layer of chocolate!  Topped with chocolate, crushed cookies, chocolate chips, and butterscotch chips; I may have even liked this version better?  Such a yummy conundrum.

The Christmas tree:

The center was slightly pink; I think it may have been a mild peppermint or berry (it's just good and I eat it!).  With a thin layer of chocolate cream on top and coated in chocolate and Christmas decorations: another goodie.

I don't know about you, but at this rate I'm not sure I can keep up this pace of spectacular sweets until the end of the month.  I'll try.

* I wouldn't consider it a hardship if I received a second batch closer to Christmas!

  1. Aw, I loved those holiday cookie boxes... didn't know Vegan Treats did their own version. my favorites were those pink or green cookies shaped like trees with chocolate inside... like milanos but kind of almondy? I don't know what they were called.
    The cheesecake shrub looks incredible!

  5. foodfeud- YES; I remember those pink and green leaves too! And the same in vanilla and chocolate men (not gingerbread). My belly is full of foliage.

ariela- That was a good one!

tahinitoo- I know, right? I love Vegan Treats.

Andrea- I think it's a bit of a trek (hour?) to VT from Philly (if you don't have a car), but you can definitely find VT treats closer. Try Govinda's to start...
