Vegan MoFo 2012, Cake Thieves at Lula's Sweet Apothecary

It's no secret: I love Lula's Sweet Apothecary.  It's my go-to place for all things ice cream!  And more...

While I'll never go to Lula's and not get ice cream (ok, once...but technically I did leave with ice cream),

it's great that there are so many other goodies to be had there- whether you enjoy them right away, or take them home.

For starters, Gone Pie brownies.  In case you haven't heard, they're available in individually wrapped packages now!  There's also always a fine assortment of Sweet and Sara goodiesHalloween bats FTW!

On my most recent visit, though; there was a new sweet in town: cinnamon buns by Cake Thieves.

At first I was going to resist, since I was a tad preoccupied.

pumpkin and chocolate, chocolate chip ice creams with hot fudge, graham cracker crumbs, whipped cream, and a cherry
But even after a luscious sundae I knew I had to bring one of those fresh, gooey, pumpkin cinnamon rolls home with me...and so too did my friend.  She ate hers first and the report was excellent.  As soon as I tasted mine and we conferred, it was agreed that we both needed more immediately.  Run, do not walk to get your very own cinnamon bun (the variations on that day were pumpkin, banana walnut, and classic); if we get there at the same time I will not hesitate to push you out of the way to get the last one!

Lest we forget the fine establishment that offered this awesome bun,

a little recent and not-previously-blogged Lula's porn for you.  Mine:

chocolate and peanut butter chip ice creams with hot fudge, whipped cream, and a cherry (can you believe I forgot my graham cracker crumbs!?)
 VM's:

creamsicle and drumstick ice creams with caramel, graham cracker crumbs (!?), whipped cream, and a cherry
If you've never been to Lula's, you don't know what you're missing.  Well, I guess maybe now you do.

  2. Unlike Gone Pie's fab treats, Lula's Sundaes can't be mail-ordered. Too bad.

  3. I miss Lula's! I love the peanut butter rescue chocolate bars and I wish they'd had those cinnamon rolls when I was there!

  4. I wish I liked ice cream more! For that alone, though, I love that Lula's offers baked goods too. How do you feel about Stogo?

  5. Do I wish I lived nearer to each of these sweets emporiums and their divine treats? Yes. Would I weight 800 pounds if I lived nearer to these sweets emporiums and their divine treats? Yes! Score one for Living Vicariously. Bon appetit!

  6. OMG. Love that place. Sometimes I am relieved to be in the middle of the country though, without all of those options. Just because IF I had cinnamon buns in my hood, or in my city, my pocketbook would always be empty and I would need bigger stretch pants!

  7. GP- You and me both!

Andrea- Excellent point; that could get messy.

vegan.in.brighton- They're new & they're FAB; I hope they have them next time I'm in too.

foodfeud- I'm definitely Team Lula's all the way. Obviously I love their food, but from day 1 the owners were not only superbly kind, but also happy to make me mountainous sundaes to my exact specifications (without judgement)! Stogo is sterile and commonplace. I've tried a bunch of their flavors and have only liked one (almond joy?). I should also note that I hate their aesthetic and have never been made to feel welcome. I don't think they're reaching out to the vegan community, I think they're just capitalizing on trendy people who want to say they ate vegan ice cream. Lula's, on the other hand, has- in a relatively short time, become a vegan institution and they deserve every success.

Aurelia- I should really invest in some elastic-waisted pants!

Get Skinny, Go Vegan- see above!

Have you got something to say? It would be so nice to hear from you!
